Achievements

  • Mobilizing members to CASSON activities that resulted to high attendance of members at the Maiduguri 2004 National Conference.
  •  Presentation of papers on some vital issues that require counseling in schools and the society, e.g. Drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, Alcoholism, smoking during meeting and invitation by private organizations.
  • Constant visit to social welfare centers and schools by state Exco.
  • Visit by the Exco to NTA, Bauchi State Television (BATV) and Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC) respectively, in order to solicit for their support in covering the activities of the chapter

Relationship between the State Chapter and Other Agencies in the State

  • Very cordial, members participated in work workshop organized by NGOS in the state, e.g. Faith Based Aids Awareness Programme, UNPFA, UNICEF.
  • Members were invited to give guidance talk at the National COSST Conference held in Bauchi on Examination Malpractices, Causes and Effects. Counseling implications

Relations between State Chapter and State Government

It has been very cordial. The state government has been sponsoring members to National Conferences.

The state government re-organized Guidance and Counseling Department in the Ministry of education and appointed Mrs. H.Y. Atiku as the Coordinator in order to make it more effective.

Special Landmarks of the Chapter

  • Visit by the State Exco to the Honourable Commissioner of Education, Dr. Musa Mu’azu Badara, in order to congratulate him for his appointment as the Honourable Commissioner of Education
  • The appointment of Mr. Ishaya Audu, Director Training Local Government Service Commission, as the patron.

Career Development and Special Achievements of Members

  • Some of our members were appointed as school Principals and Vice Principals due to their contributions and personal qualities as school counselors
  • Many of the chapter’s members organized career week and orientation programmes in their various schools

Constraints, Problems and Difficulties Encountered by the State Chapter in the Last One Year

  • The chapter is faced with serious financial constraints as a result of non-challant attitude of some principals and other private establishment to members for the chapters activities
  • The majority of the members are not trained counselors, this constitute a major problem to the chapter

Suggestions for Improvement of Activities of the Chapter

  1. The Chapter has plans to organize workshop on 4th-5th May 2005.
  2. The involvement of NGOS and United Nations Agencies to support and sponsor counseling programmes in Media Houses such as TV and Radio on some vital issues affecting youths
  3. Embark upon enlightenment campaign at the Local Government Level on the need to establish Guidance and Counselling Department
